Arsenal retain Emirates Cup

Arsenal reigned victorious over Celtic to clinch the Cup title for the second year running while AC Milan had to settle for a disappointing fourth place finish in the tournament following a draw with Olympique Lyonnais.

Day two of the pre-season tournament kicked off with AC Milan facing Olympique Lyonnais. Ten minutes into the second half a goal by Marco Borriello tipped victory in AC Milan’s favour, but with ten minutes left in the half Jimmy Briand equalised, resulting in the third draw of the tournament and a last place finish for AC Milan.

Hosts Arsenal faced then Celtic in the final and most thrilling game of the tournament. The Gunners came out firing when Carlos Vela scored in the third minute and Bacary Sagna adding another point just before halftime. Samir Nasri added a third to the store in the second half before Celtic’s Georgios Samaras’ missed penalty, followed by two Celtic goals by Daryl Murphy and Ki sung-Yong to make for an exciting finish.

Arsenal lifted the trophy for the third time ever, and for the second year in a row, on their home pitch at Emirates Stadium.
Taking place over two days, this year’s tournament featured its strongest line-up yet with four star-studded clubs competing to lift the Emirates Cup trophy.

Joining hosts and defending champions Arsenal were European powerhouse AC Milan, as well as SPL runners-up Celtic and European Cup Olympique Lyonnais.
