Malta devastated in final seconds
Malta were defeated 1-0 by Greece in the final seconds of the match.
Malta truly deserved a point from this match as they kept Greece at bay throughout the match.
Both teams had numerous chances in the early stages of the match.
Vassili Torosidis had the first attempt on goal in the first 15 minutes, but his shot went wide.
On the 22nd minute, Malta appealed for a penalty when Michale Mifsud was brought down by Karagounis., but the referee waved play on.
Greece started to pile on the pressure in the final stages of the first half, but some fine defending kept the ball out of the net.
In the second half, Greece continued pressing for the opening goal. The goal unfortunately for Malta arrived in the final seconds of the match.
Four minutes in added time, a freekick by Giorgos Karagournis was intercepted by Vassilis Torosidis who then headed the ball in past goalkeeper Justin Haber.
The goal could not have come at a worst time for Malta as there was not time to get score the equaliser.
Last October, another goal in stoppage time denied Malta a point when Georgia defeated Malta.
