Inter need to win 4-0 in the return leg in Germany, a task that Inter coach Leonardo thinks is almost impossible.
Inter started the match on a positive note when Dejan Stankovic’s shot from the middle of the ground went over the defence and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to give Inter the lead in the first minute.
The lead would not last long as Schalke scored the equaliser on the 17th minute. Joel Matip took advantage of the unorganised Inter defence to make it 1-1.
Diego Milito gave Inter the lead again on the 34th minute. A great assist from Cambiasso gave Milito the opportunity to score.
From then on it would be downhill for Inter. Five minutes before the end of the first half Eduardo Goncalves de Oliveira scored to give Schalke another precious away goal. It was not 2-2.
In the second half, the former Real Madrid player, Raul scored his 70th Champions League goal to make it 3-2 on the 53rd minute.
Inter were made to regret their missed scoring chances as Schalke scored another goal thanks to an own goal by Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia on the 57th minute.

Schalke added more misery to Inter when Eduardo Goncalves de Oliveira scored his second of the night to make it 5-2 on the 75th minute.
With this result Inter have a huge mountain to climb if they want to defend their Champions League trophy.
