Darmanin Demajo pledges stadiums for the south, and transfer market credits

The former MFA treasurer faces long-time MFA president Joe Mifsud on Saturday’s election for MFA president: yesterday he presented his manifesto.

Darmanin Demajo, 58, yesterday put forward his proposals to representatives of the Premier League and Division One clubs, a crucial vote necessary to displace incumbent Joe Mifsud who has a tenacious hold over lower-division clubs.

Central to his plan are two new stadiums in the south and the central parts of the island, to serve as regional grounds. A financial package will be created for all clubs to generate income from local competition, and the elimination of the hire of pitch charges for matches.

Darmanin Demajo, also known as Dédé, pledged an increase share of gate money for home teams, based on a new league format with more matches being played. A season ticket scheme would be introduced for clubs, which will also sell MFA international match tickest directly.

Like Mifsud’s pledge to increase grants to football clubs with a €10,000 gift, Darmanin Demajo said all clubs would benefit from a €5,000 grants thanks to income from an international friendly.

He also said he would create a transfer credit scheme, that gives clubs credit for the purchase of players.
