Hibernians regain top spot as Hamrun defeat Sliema

BOV Premier League action was at its best on Monday as four matches were played due to bad weather postponing all matches on Sunday.

Hibernians regained top spot as the defeated Mosta 2-0 to register their sixth successive victory in the BOV Premier League.

Hibernians now have a one point advantage over Valletta in the standings.

Mosta could not have started the match any worse when just after eight minutes, defender Yannick Ossok fouled Mosta’s Edison Luis dos Santos just outside the area and was sent off.  A freekick was awarded to Hibernians and Clayton Failla’s effort beat goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.

On the 80th minute, Hibernians scored their second goal. Edison Luis dos Santos picked up the rebound from a shot by Marcelo Dias and made no mistake to find the back of the net.

Clayton Failla was voted BOV Player of the Match.

Marsaxlokk defeated Tarxien Rainbows in a six-goal thriller that ended 4-2.

Tarxien did not have to wait long before they took the lead just after four minutes. Daniel Mariano Bueno’s powerful shot beat goalkeeper Reuben Gauci.

Just six minutes later, Marsaxlokk were back into the match after they equalised. Obinna Obiefule setup Martin Deanov who made no mistake to beat goalkeeper David Cassar with his shot.

On the 16th minute Marsaxlokk managed to take the lead after they were awarded a penalty. Daniel Mariano Bueno brought Obinna Obiefule down inside the area. Obinna Obiefule beat goalkeeper David Cassar with his shot.

On the 40th minute, Tarxien managed to level matters when Daniel Mariano Bueno beat Tarxien’s goalkeeper with his shot.

Marsaxlokk regained the lead on the 76th minute. A powerfull shot was blocked by goalkeeper David Cassar but off the rebound Emiliano Lattes beat the goalkeeper with his shot. It was now 3-2 in Marsaxlokk’s favour.

In injury time, Marsaxlokk sealed the victory when Obinna Obiefule scored after receiving a pass from Emiliano Lattes.

Obinna Obiefule was voted BOV Player of the Match.

Hamrun Spartans defeated Sliema Wanderers in another six-goal thriller with a 4-2 vicotry.

Sliema took the lead on the 20th minute when off a cross from Jackson Lima, Jorge Santos Silva immediately served Cleavon Frendo who made no mistake beating goalkeeper Omar Borg.

On the 43rd minute, Hamrun lost a great opportunity to take the lead. Gaetan Spiteri was brought down inside the area by Alex Muscat and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Anderson Mendes Ribeiro had his penalty shot saved by goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Gaetan Spiteri scored the equaliser for Hamrun on the 67th minute after he picked up a loose ball in front of the Sliema goal to beat substitute goalkeeper Anthony Curmi.

Hamrun piled on the pressure and it started to show as on the 72nd minute off a cross from Massimo Grima, Anderson Mendes Ribeiro headed the ball past Anthony Curmi to give Hamrun the lead.

Just three minutes later Hamrun were scored their third goal. Gaetan Spiteri found the back of the net with his shot.

On the 80th minute, Hamrun scored another goal to make it 4-1. This time it was Dene Shields who made no mistake after receiving a perfect pass from the right.

Sliema managed to make score their second goal of the evening after Matthew Gauci brought down Jerry Ani inside the area on the 84th minute. Daniel Mitev beat goalkeeper Omar Borg with his shot.

Anderson Mendes was voted BOV Player of the Match.

Floriana defeated Balzan Youths 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Balzan took the lead late into the first half. On the 42nd minute. Off a corner by Fagner Lins Bernardes, Kris Bright beat goalkeeper William Amamoo with his header.

Just one minute later, Mano Micallef headed the ball into the back of the net after receiving a perfect cross from Joseph Okonkwo.

On the 62nd minute. Floriana were awarded a penalty shot after Clifton Ciantar brought down Mano Micallef inside the area. Ivan Woods made no mistake beating goalkeeper Fredrick Tabone with his attempt.

On the 87th minute, Floriana sealed their victory after Ivan Woods served Christian Caruana who then made no mistake beating Tabone with his shot from close range.

Manolito Micallef was voted BOV Player of the Match.
