MFA refuses accreditations to MediaToday
Mediatoday Co. Ltd, publishers of MaltaToday and Illum newspapers, has formally notified the Malta Football Association that it is holding MFA President Joe Mifsud personally responsible if the association persists in refusing media accreditation for journalist Mark Attard.
In a series of phone calls exchanged today, Mediatoday managing editor Saviour Balzan informed MFA secretary general Joe Gauci, that should the MFA persist in refusing to issue accreditations to its journalists, the company will hold President Joe Mifsud personally responsible.
Illum sports journalist Mark Attard has been highly critical of Joe Mifsud and a refusal by the MFA to issue him accreditation is considered as an act of intimidation and censorship.
Joe Mifsud is seeking confirmation as President of the MFA, a post he has held since 1992. He is being contested by Norman Darmanin Demajo, who has also been refused accreditation for tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting. Also refused was aspiring MFA treasurer Antoine Portelli.
In comments to MaltaToday, Norman Darmanin Demajo said that the MFA eventually “gave in” to his pressure to be legitimately accredited to the AGM in which he is contesting, after he brought the issue to the attention of The Times.
45 minutes after The Times raised the issue, the MFA issued the accreditation for Darmanin Demajo.
