Vital win for Vittoriosa
Vittoriosa Stars defeated Rabat Ajax 3-1 to register an important victory that moved them into third place in the Relegation Pool.
This result means Vittoriosa finally returning to winning ways after a draw and two defeats in their last three matches.
Rabat has now gone seventeen matches without a win.
Rabat created the first scoring opportunity as early as the first minute. Off a cross from the left by Diego Carrillo, Ryan Micallef's shot from inside the area was saved by goalkeeper Mario Muscat.
Vittoriosa managed to take the lead on the 21st minute. Marcelo Pereira served Oscar Guerrero who then went on to beat goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic with his shot.
Rabat were unlucky not to score on the 33rd minute when Diego Carrillo's freekick hit the woodwork.
Eight minutes into the second half, Rabat managed to score the equaliser.
Off a cross by Diego Carrillo, the ball was partially cleared by Vittoriosa's defenders. Rabat's Jonathan Bajada then took advantage of the bad clearance and beat goalkeeper Mario Muscat with his rising shot.
Vittoriosa had to wait till the 62nd minute before they regained the lead. Guerrero made his way into the area to then serve Carl Sammut who then went on to beat goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic with his shot.
On the 80th minute, Vittoriosa made sure they sealed their victory. Guerrero passed to Carl Sammut and the latter immediately passed the ball to the unmarked Marcelo Pereira who then went on to beat Rabat's goalkeeper with his shot.
