Malta loses 2-0 against Albania in Durres

Malta lost by two goals to nil to Albania in a friendly match played at the N. Dovana Stadium in Durres.

The match was meant to serve as preparation for the upcoming EURO 2016 Qualifying Matches which are due to start in September.

Missing some regular players due to having dropped the Valletta players over a training dispute, national team coach Pietro Ghedin opted to start with Ryan Camilleri and Steve Bezzina in defence and B'kara's midfielder Paul Fenech.

Albania took control of the match after Malta captain Michael MIfsud missed a chance early on. The hosts took the lead on the 26th minute mark with Midjen Basha heading home from a corner.

Malta failed to react with Albania keeping control. Seven minutes into the second half Alban Meha came up with a scorcher from outside the area to leave keeper Andrew Hogg helpless to make it 2-0.

Ghedin's team below par performance continued, and it was only after several substitutions were made by both sides, one of which included the introduction of striker Terence Vella who replaced Michael Mifsud in the dying minutes that Malta managed a couple of attempts at goal.
