Wales’ Under-21 coach praises ‘outstanding youth’ ahead of game with Malta tonight
Wales Under-21 manager Brian Flynn said he has a new crop of outstanding youth ahead of today’s friendly with Malta at Ta' Qali's National Stadium.
"I have got good young players coming through," Flynn, who had lost the likes of Gareth Bale to the seniors.
Flynn's side currently topped their European Under-21 Championship qualifying group.
They needed three points from their last two games against Hungary and Italy next month to book a place in the two-legged play-offs for a finals spot.
"(Qualification) would be the biggest thing that has happened to Wales for a long time," Flynn insisted.
He explained how the last Under-21 Championship, Wales were “a whisker away” from shocking England in the play-offs.
"That was very close and I think this group can better that,” Flynn added.
"We are capable of getting the three points we need from those two games, we are set up to score goals,” the Wales coach concluded.
The game kicks off at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium at 7pm tonight.
