Roof collapses at World Cup stadium which will host England match

Parts of the roof collapse in Belo Horizonte stadium that will host four group stage matches and a semi-final.

Preparations for the World Cup in Brazil have suffered another blow after parts from the room of a World Cup stadium collapsed onto the pitch.

The Belo Horizonte stadium, which is set to host England's match against Costa Rica, saw parts of its roof fall onto the pitch.

The collapse occurred during a storm on Saturday, just hours before a regional championship match.

Three pieces of metal used to collect water atop the roof became detached and fell onto the pitch near the benches, and also onto the stands at the Mineirao Stadium in the city of Belo Horizonte, which is scheduled to host a World Cup semi-final.

No one was injured.

There were holes on the roof where the metal parts were located and water fell directly into the stands.

The stadium is set to host four group stage matches, amongst which include England's match against Costa Rica, as well as a semi-final match.

In November, two construction workers died when a giant crane crashed into the Sao Paolo stadium while stadium safety concerns were also put into question after a construction worker fell to his death in December.

Coincidentally, the death of the construction workers occurred at the Brazilian city of Manaus where Italy and England will play out their much-awaited match on June 14.
