Birkirkara defeat Sliema to move five points clear

This was Birkirkara's seventeenth win in their last eighteen matches as for Sliema this was thier first defeat in their last ten matches.

Birkirkara took the lead on the 12th minute. Off a freekick by Joseph Zerafa, Edward Herrera controlled the ball and had his shot hit the crossbar before going into the net past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Sliema Wanderers scored the equaliser on the 23rd minute. Alex Muscat passed to Stanley Ohawuchi who then dribbled past a defender before having his shot beat goalkeeper Justin Haber from just outside the area.

Birkirkara regained the lead on the 41st minute. Off a cross by Zach Muscat, an unmarked Paul Fenech, headed the ball past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Birkirkara made sure they secured victory when on the 57th minute they made it 3-1. Jhonnattann Benites da Conceicao left no chance for Bonello with his powerful shot from just outside the area.

In the earlier match, Valletta and Mosta played to a 2-2 draw.

This is not the result Valletta was looking for as they lost precious points in their race to catch League leaders Birkirkara.

Valletta took the lead on the 8th minute. A powerful shot by Alan da Silva Souza from outside the area easily beat goalkeeper Omar Borg.

Mosta were back in the match on the 15th minute. A brilliant freekick by Gianmarco Piccioni left no chance for goalkeeper Nukri Revishvili.

Mosta took the lead on the 65th minute for the first time in the match. Off a cross by Antonio Carrozza, Gianmarco Piccioni scored his second goal of the match when he scored from close range.

Valletta were back in the match when they scored the equaliser on the 78th minute. Off a cross by Alan da Silva, Lateef Elford-Alliyu beat goalkeeper Nukri Revishvili with his shot from close range.

Gianmarco Piccioni was voted BOV Player of the Match.
