David Moyes set to be sacked
Underfire David Moyes to be sacked as Manchester United run out of patience with Scottish manager set to be sacked at end of season
David Moyes is facing the sack by Manchester United, who have finally run out of patience with him and do not believe he can be trusted with the €180 million overhaul the club intends to carry out this summer.
Media reports in the UK say that the Glazer family who own the club lost patience with Moyes after a dismal season that has seen the reigning Barclays Premier League champions slump to seventh in the table.
The final straw was Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, their 11th in the Barclays Premier League this season, and a result that left the title holders down 13 points off the Champions League places.
Though United had been aiming to make the Scot's departure a graceful one when United's Premier League season ends at Southampton on May 11, he could leave imminently. Any attempt on his part to seek a clarification about his own future is unlikely to secure the reassurance he would be looking for. Without such assurances, he would be likely to tender his resignation and the United board would be likely to accept.
Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is one of the favourites to replace Moyes with bookamakers placing the German among the frontrunners alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Dutchman Louis van Gaal.
Ferguson is joint favourite with Van Gaal to make a sensational return to the United hotseat just a year after he hand-picked Moyes to take over.
The 72-year-old retired from management last summer after over 26 years in charge at Old Trafford, but Coral make him 6-1 to take control again with Moyes set to be sacked in the coming weeks.
Van Gaal is available at the same price as Ferguson after confirming he will leave his job as manager of Holland following this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, although his experience in Europe and at international level is sure to interest United owners the Glazer family.
United legend and current player-coach Ryan Giggs is also high on the list of possible Moyes replacements as he continues to plan for life after hanging up his boots.
