Juve confirm Aquilani loan with option to buy

Juventus have announced the loan signing of Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani with an option to purchase the player for €16 million at the end of the season.

Aquilani, 26, joined Liverpool from Roma for €20 million last summer on a five-year deal, but he struggled for fitness and made only nine starts in the league.

Roy Hodgson confirmed last week that he planned to allow the player to return to Italy to regain his fitness as he was not part of his first-team plans for this season, although he had suggested that it was not expected to be a permanent deal.

However, having completed what is believed to have been a rigorous medical, Juve have now confirmed that the deal includes an option to buy.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Liverpool F.C. for the free temporary acquisition of the registration rights of the player Alberto Aquilani has been reached.

"The agreement also includes the option right, to be exercised at the end of 2010-2011 season, for the definitive acquisition by Juventus of the football player at the price of €16 million, to be paid in three years."
