Champions Birkirkara defeat Sliema

A depleted Birkirkara due to injuries and suspensions came back from being a goal down to defeat Sliema Wanderers 4-1.

Carl Pulo, Patrick Borg, Shaun Bajada, Paul Fenech and Nikola Vukanac of Birkirkara were suspended for this match, while Alan Tabone was ruled out injured.

Sliema started pressing early in the match and managed to take the lead 12 minutes into the match on a counter attack. Jackson Lima Sequeira received a great pass from Obinna Obiefule to beat goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.

Birkirkara equalized on the 28th minute with a penalty shot from Michael Galea when Sliema’s Sekou Tidiane Souare handled the ball inside the area.

After Birkirkara equalized, it was what they needed to get back into the game as on the 36th minute they took the lead when Michael Galea got the goal from close range from a rebound off Sliema goalkeeper Viktor Szentpeteri.

Birkirkara made it 3-1 five minutes into added time when Terence Vella tapped the ball in after receiving a pass from the left by Emiliano Lattes.

In the second half, Sliema tried to get back into the match, but some fine defending from Birkirkara ended any chance of Sliema getting their second goal.

Two minutes in added time, Birkirkara got the fourth goal when Emiliano Lattes made no mistake to hit the back of the net.
