Real Madrid ok with Mourinho coaching Portugal says Portuguese football President
Real Madrid have apparently granted Jose Mourinho permission take temporary control of the Portugal national team.
The possibility of Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho taking charge of the Portugal national team for forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Iceland and Denmark is still alive according to the chief of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
Gilberto Madail has revealed following a meeting with Mourinho that the matter of whether or not the self proclaimed Special One would coach the Seleccao on a temporary basis next month has not yet been resolved.
Following the dismissal of Carlos Queiroz, Portugal have turned to the 47-year-old to steady the ship and get their qualifying campagin back on track after a miserable start which saw them draw 4-4 at home against Cyprus before losing 1-0 to Norway.
Madail also stated that los Merengues officials would have no problems in allowing Mourinho to take charge on a short-term basis but the coach himself is unsure as he is fully focused on his role with the club.
"They [Real Madrid] have behaved in a very cordial manner with us on an issue that is not yet closed. Real Madrid would not be a problem but Mourinho is highly concentrated on work with the Blancos team," was quoted as saying by Marca on his arrival back in Lisbon.
