Hamrun defeat Tarxien as M'Xlokk and Sliema play to a goalless draw

Hamrun Spartans continued their fine start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Tarxien Rainbows while Marsaxlokk FC and Sliema Wanderers played to a goalless draw.

Throughout the match, Hamrun showed they were the better side on the day.

Hamrun took the lead on the 15th minute when Marcelo Pereira received a pass from Dene Shields and had no problem controlling the ball before putting it past Tarxien goalkeeper Anthony Curmi.

Tarxien had a lucky break to get back into the match when Roderick Fenech handled the ball inside the area and Cristiano Dos Santos had no problem taking the penalty and putting it past Ivan Casha.

Hamrun started to press and they managed to make it 2-1 when David Camilleri’s corner kick was headed in goal by Massimo Grima.

In the second half Tarxien tried to get back in the match, but Hamrun’s solid defence made it difficult for them.
Hamrun put the game out of reach on the 81st minute when Dene Shields beat the Tarxien Rainbows goalkeeper to make the score 3-1.

In the other match of the day, Marsaxlokk and Sliema battled it out to a goalless draw. Both teams were desperate for maximum points but had to settle for a point a piece.
