Fergie labels Torres a cheat

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has launched a withering attack on Liverpool's Fernando Torres, branding the Spanish striker a cheat after Sunday's pulsating North West derby at Old Trafford.

United blew a two-goal lead as Steven Gerrard's brace drew Liverpool back on to level terms at 2-2, but Dimitar Berbatov completed a hat-trick with six minutes remaining to give the hosts all three points.

However Ferguson was left fuming by an incident with the score at 2-1 when John O'Shea hauled down Torres who was trying to reach a through pass.

The Scot claims Torres tried to con referee Howard Webb and get United's Irish defender O'Shea red-carded.

"I've watched it again and I have to say Torres made a meal of it. No doubt," Ferguson fumed. "He was trying to get the lad sent off."

Ferguson admitted he feared his team would not get anything from the thrilling encounter.

The Scot said: "From thinking to myself 'it's going to be 10' we ended up at 2-2. It was a travesty of a scoreline then - but a great result at the end.

"They (Liverpool) didn't offer anything and depended on decisions from the linesman to get back in the game.

"Edwin van der Sar had no saves to make, Paul Scholes controlled the midfield and we looked dangerous up front with Dimitar and Nani - I couldn't see us losing the game."
