Rainbows require revival against Mosta
A preview of today's BOV Premier League matches
Tarxien vs Mosta (Today at 2pm, Hibernians Stadium)
Tarxien will be looking to return to winning ways against Mosta after a series of consecutive negative results has left them fighting against relegation.
The Rainbows currently sit 10th in the table, two points above Pieta, and will be hoping to capitalise on Mosta’s patchy league form in order to pull themselves out of the relegation zone. After a few disastrous defeats, Tarxien have been actively trying to recruit new players after releasing all of their foreign players in an attempt to change the club’s fortunes. They have so far brought in two Spanish players; Eduardo Vallecillo Casado and Jorge Yepes Roda.
Mosta on the other hand were going through a series of winless streaks of their own, before last weekend’s 3-1 win over Qormi. In fact they have won just once in their last four matches.
Mosta currently find themselves in 6th in the table, and a win against Tarxien could put them back in the frame for a top four finish.
Tarxien will have a full squad for this match.
Mosta will be without suspended keeper Omar Borg.
The hunt for honours and salvation
Zebbug Rangers Vs Valletta (Today at 4pm, Hibernians Stadium)
Zebbug Rangers meet Valletta today with the champions looking to solidify their place behind Hibernians, while Zebbug are fighting for Premier League survival and hoping to get over what was a dreadful 2014 start to the campaign.
Currently sitting at the bottom of the table, Zebbug face an uphill task against Valleta with only two wins in their 18 matches played. However there are positive signs, especially after their win over Sliema last week. For a side who had only managed one win since August, victory over Sliema last week can certainly serve as a huge boost to their confidence.
A leaky defence has seen Zebbug concede a league worst 44 goals so far, but new signings coming in this month could see their defence strengthen.
The Champions lie in second; 15 points behind Hibernians and at present their most realistic targets this season are to clinch second place and an FA Trophy success.
Valletta should prove too strong for Zebbug today; however they should not be too confident against their opponents, particularly after recently finding themselves two down against Qormi.
Both teams have no suspension problems and should have all players available for this match.
Struggling teams look to improve form
Sliema Vs Naxxar (Today, 2pm, Victor Tedesco Stadium)
Sliema and Naxxar lions meet in another clash today with both sides coming off a defeat in their last outing and looking to improve on their inconsistent records so far this season.
Jesmond Zerafa’s Naxxar go into this match in abject form, having taken just three points in their last four matches, though they seem to find the net on a regular basis.
Today’s clash pits two teams who have failed for consistency, with Sliema struggling for goals and often conceding easy goals to their opponents.
With both sides looking so inconsistent, it is hard to predict anything in this match, however both teams should be aware of the importance to bounce back from a rather disappointing form so far.
Sliema and Naxxar currently sit in seventh and eighth place respectively with five points separating the two.
Sliema will be without suspended Filippo Andrea Scozzese.
Qormi, Pieta seek win to get back on track
Qormi vs Pieta (Today, 4pm, Victor Tedesco Stadium)
Qormi and Pieta meet today as the teams face each other this weekend with both sides experiencing similarly tasty defeats in their last fixture.
Pieta lost 0-3 to Valletta, conceding two goals from corner kicks and having only one foreigner in their line-up.
Qormi did not fare much better, losing 3-1 to Mosta after an encouraging performance against Valletta in the previous fixture.
Qormi currently sit in ninth on 17 points while Pieta are second from bottom on 14 points.
Both teams have no suspension problems.
