Birkirkara leave it late to defeat Hibernians
Champions Birkirkara are back to winning ways when they defeated Hibernians 2-1 on Friday night.
Excellent goalkeeping, kept Hibernians at bay. Both teams had good scoring opportunities during the match, but it was Birkirkara who went ahead when two minutes in added time when of a quick freekick, Terence Vella managed to get past the Hibernians defender and put a rising shot past Hibs goalkeeper Mario Muscat.
In the second half, Hibernians were back in the game when on the 85th minute Andrew Cohen had a fantastic long distance shot beat Birkirkara goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.
It was anybody’s game now as both teams pressed for the winning goal. It was Emiliano Lattes that gave Birkirkara the winning goal when on the 90th minute, off a rebound from a shot by Karl Pulo, Emiliano was unmarked and had no problem finding the back of the net.
Manual Bartolo was voted BOV Player of the Match.
