Reus signs new Dortmund Deal
Forward signs extension until 2019
Germany International Marco Reus has agreed to sign a contract renewal with struggling Borussia Dortmund that will keep him at the club until 2019.
Reus was largely expected to leave Dortmund at the end of the season with Europe’s elite all fighting for his signature among those Real Madrid, Manchester City and even Bayern Munich. However the 25 year old has now ended speculation about his future by penning a new two year extension while it has also been reported that there will no release clause in his contract.
‘’Marco can mark an era in Dortmund, like Uwe Seeler at Hamburg and Steven Gerrard at Liverpool in the past.’’ Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said on Reus’ renewal.
‘’The fact that Marco has decided to sign a new deal with BVB in such difficult times is further proof that he identifies himself with this club, something we are very proud of.’’
Sporting director Michael Zorc, meanwhile, was equally delighted with Reus’ decision to stay put despite interest from Europe’s strongest formations.
‘’Marco Reus could have joined any big club in the world. His decision shows that his heart beats for his hometown and his boyhood club. He is a key player for Dortmund’s future.’’
Reus came through the ranks of Borussia Dortmund youth academy, having also brief loan spells Weiss Ahlen and Borussia Monchengladbach before returning to his boyhood club.
