Efficient West Brom storm into FA Cup quarter finals
Wins for Championship sides Blackburn and Reading
Brown Ideye scored four goals in six days as he helped his team to a comfortable 4-0 victory over West Ham United in the FA Cup fifth round.
Ideye, who was poised to leave the club last month, had scored just two in 17 matches before scoring against Burnley, Swansea and adding two more at West Ham.
James Morrison and Saido Berahino grabbed the other goals as West Ham had player Morgan Amalfitano send off for violent conduct.
Craig Gardner tested the Hammers Keeper early on which ended just wide of the keeper’s post.
The Spaniard may have wished his suspension had not been rescinded- as West Brom turned on the pressure for the majority of the match.
Gardner instigated the move inside the centre circle with a superb diagonal ball that caught West Ham full-back Aaron Creswell napping. His sloppiness allowed Craig Dawson to race down the right wing to deliver a fine cross into Ideye, who slammed the ball in from six yards.
Morrison made it two four minutes before the break with a powerful long range effort which ended into the top corner of the net.
The game was over as a contest on 57 minutes as Ideye took full advantage of some erratic West Ham defending to score his fourth goal in three games.
Chris Brunt’s cross ran through to Stephane Sessegnon, who kept the ball alive and found Ideye with a pin-point cross. Ideye found space between Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins and nodded home via a small deflection off James Tomkins.
Amalfitano replaced the ineffectual Kevin Nolan, who was booed off by the visiting supporters, but was only on the pitch for 10 minutes as he saw red for a clash with Brunt.
The West Ham midfielder hacked Brunt down from behind and was about to receive a yellow card before he pushed Brunt in the face right in front of referee Martin Atkinson, who did not hesitate to have him sent him off.
Berahino then made it 4-0 firing into the bottom corner from a highly difficult position.
Blackburn beat Stoke City with an impressive 4-1 win to book a place in the quarter finals with Joshua King netting a hat-trick.
A Joshua King hat-trick, a penalty and a red card for Geoff Cameron helped Blackburn overcome Stoke with another Premier League scalp in the FA Cup.
Stoke were ahead after just10 minutes through Peter Crouch and were in control of the game until King equalised for the Rovers in the 35th minute.
Blackburn then took the lead six minutes into first half injury-time with Gestede converting a penalty after a foul and sending off for Geoff Cameron.
King scored again five minutes after the break to give his team a two goal lead and things got even worse for the potters with king notching his hat-trick on 55 minutes.
Yakubu was the hero for his team Reading scoring a late goal against Derby County to book a place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
The veteran striker who previously played for Middlesbrough, was facing former Managed Steve McClaren came off the bench to score a late winner and send his team through.
Derby played much of the game with a man less following Stephen Warnock’s first half sending off.
Reading took the lead early in the second half when Robson-Kanu finished brilliantly with his left foot after a flowing move down the right flank.
Despite being a man down, Derby were still playing offensive good Football and were rewarded for their efforts just eight minutes after going a goal down through Darren Bent.
With neither team playing for a replay, end to end Football was being played with Pavel Pogrebnyak wasting what could have been the best chance failing to beat the Derby keeper with an effort from close range.
Close to the final whistle however, the visitors broke quickly and found themselves in a two-on-two situation and when the ball was threaded through to Yakubu he finished in an expertly fashion sweeping the ball beyond Roos and win the match for his team in only his second appearance for the club.
