Greens look to get back to winning ways

Mosta aim to hold off rising Balzan

Floriana Vs Pieta; 2pm at Tedesco Stadium

Floriana meet Pieta at the Tedesco Stadium on Saturday, hoping to get back to winning ways after failing to win in their last two matches and getting knocked out of the FA Trophy.

Prior to drawing in their last two matches, Floriana lost two consecutive matches against Balzan and Birkirkara respectively collecting just two points out of a possible twelve.  Failing to win in their last four matches meant the greens failed to put pressure on fourth place Balzan who are still aspiring of a place in Europe.

Pieta; still alive in the FA Trophy, are still embroiled in the relegation scramble and will be desperate for a win to distance themselves from the bottom two places.  Pieta are yet to register a win over Floriana this season, having lost 1-3 in the first round and earning a 1-1 draw in the second round fixture.

The Hotspurs have won just one out of their last four matches and are currently in tenth just three points above the drop zone.  Floriana are currently in fifth on 29 points just five points adrift of Balzan.

Pieta will have to do without Orosco Anonan who is out through suspension.

Balzan Vs Mosta; 4:15 at Tedesco Stadiu
Balzan Vs Mosta; 4:15 at Tedesco Stadiu

Mosta play Balzan in the second match at the Tedesco Stadium on Saturday with the aim of maintaining their push for a top six finish.

Mosta are currently in seventh place, two points behind Sliema who are occupying the final spot for a place in the Championship Pool, but Balzan will be cautiously watching over their shoulder as they are aware their opponents on Saturday are vying for a place in the top six with points to be deducted at the end of the round.

Balzan go into this match high on confidence having registered three consecutive victories in their last three matches including a 2-1 win over Valletta.  Balzan have certainly made strides this season and a win against Mosta on Saturday would surely put pressure on Birkirkara and Valletta.

In the previous fixtures both teams have managed to secure a win over the other with an identical score line of 1-0, with Mosta winning the first fixture and Balzan winning the second.  With such tight results in the previous matches, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect another close contest.
