MFA threatens to take legal action against the Player's Association
MFA ready to file a libel suit unless allegations are withdrawn
In light of the recent declarations made by the Malta Football Player’s Association involving the Emanuel Sevasta Vs St.George’s case and the handling of the case by the Malta Football Association, the MFA was quick to make a statement during a meeting between the MFPA and MFA General Secretary Bjorn Vassallo and Vice President Dr.Chris Bonnett.
The MFA said it was ready to take legal action according to law unless certain allegations about the case and the involvement of its officials were withdrawn.
The meeting revolved around the issue surrounding Emanuel Sevasta being owed wages from previous seasons by St.Georges Football club. The MFPA claimed the player was owed €2,600 in salaries for the 2012/2013, 2013/2014 and for the first part of the current 2014/2015 season.
It went on to suggest that the club, through a delegate who was an MFA official and a member of its board of Executives, presented a form signed by the player at the end of the season given to him by the players and coaches board.
The MFPA question the morality of a supposedly neutral board member being given the responsibility of helping a club and providing evidence when also being given the duty to do administrative work at the MFA.
It said it was afraid there was collusion between clubs and MFA officials and representatives who sat on a supposedly impartial board.
It called on the MFA to take action and for justice to be made with Sevasta.
In its statement, the MFA said the facts were that the documents presented were authentic and the case had been decided in a correct manner.
