VIDEO | Wondergoal disallowed by referee after not granting advantage rule

Leading referee Michel Winter came in for some stick from pundits in Holland after a wondergoal from VVV Venlo's Ken Leemans was disallowed because the official failed to play the advantage.

Playing on after a foul is usually applauded as it keeps the game flowing - but not so in this case as Leemans' strike failed to stand because of an earlier tackle from De Graafschap's Yuri Rose on Josue Pesqueira.

In the 74th minute Rose dived in on his opposite number around 35 yards out, felling Pesqueira right in front of referee Winter.

The VVV players would have been outraged at the studs-up tackle - that is, if Pesqueira's team-mate hadn't just hit a screamer of a shot after finding the ball rolling to his feet.

Rather than gesture for a yellow card, which was issued literally as the ball was flying from Leemans' feet into the top corner, the VVV players had just cause to complain that by simply continuing the game for a few seconds more, they'd have been 2-0 up.

As it happened, the controversy had little bearing on the result with VVV claiming a 1-0 victory - their first win in five games.

But Leemans certainly wasn't happy - and neither were the fans, many of whom continued celebrating the goal while Rose was having his name taken.

The whistle was clearly blown before the shot was taken let alone the ball entering the net.Nothing unusual.
