Wasteful Qormi in stalemate
Wanderers hold out for a draw against a more determined Qormi side
In an entertaining encounter between two sides in the lower end of the table, Qormi and Sliema played out a goal less draw with relegation threatened Qormi clearly being the better side throughout the whole 90 minutes.
Qormi started the match brightly and thought they had gone in front on 13 minutes when Alfred Effiong‘s header beat the Sliema keeper only for Referee Fyodor Zammit to rule out the goal for an alleged foul committed by the forward.
From the following foul, Michael Mifsud ran across the Qormi defence only to be denied by the on-coming Qormi keeper Camilleri with the ball falling at the feet of John Mintoff with his effort being blocked by the experienced Zoran Levnaic.
Qormi stayed in control of the game and on 30 minutes they almost found the net when Jonathan Bondin’s ferocious effort came off the bar.
On the other end, Sliema went close through Djumo Bocar who’s lob finished over the keeper after connecting a good pass from Potezica.
On the start of the second half, it was again Qormi controlling the affair and on 55 minutes Villabos saw his low effort deflected to a corner after some good work by Effiong.
On 61 minutes, Glenn Zammit did well to prevent Effiong from scoring pushing away the forward’s effort.
In injury time, Qormi saw their luck running against them once again when Leighton Grech hit the crossbar after a good run with the keeper beaten.
