Arsenal reach FA Cup final with goal in extra time
An error by Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici condemned his side to a 2-1 extra-time defeat to holders Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley.
The Australian allowed a low effort from Alexis Sanchez, who had put Arsenal 1-0 up earlier in the game, to slip through his grasp and over the line in the final seconds of the opening period of extra-time.
The Gunners struggled to find anything like their best form against their Championship opponents, who counter-attacked dangerously.
But they took the lead when Sanchez converted a through ball from Mesut Ozil towards the end of the first half, only for Garath McCleary to equalise when his volley went in off Wojciech Szczesny less than 10 minutes into the second half.
Aaron Ramsey smashed an effort against the post from close range inside the final 10 minutes of the 90 -- but Federici's mistake proved to be the decisive moment and left Arsenal one game away from defending the trophy.
