UEFA Under-19 Championship: Netherlands vs Malta 3-0

The Netherlands scored three in the second half to register the second win in Group 9, beating Malta 3-0.

The Maltese played a tactically perfect first half, also creating a good scoring opportunity through a Bjorn Kristensen header off a well-taken freekick by Zach Muscat on the half-hour. However Kristensen's header hit the crossbar. On the 44th minute, the Dutch also hit the crossbar from another freekick.

For the beginning of the second half, the Dutch preformed two substitutions. This enabled them to increase their pace and the pressure on the Maltese rear-guard. They took only seven minutes to break the deadlock through Isoufi Shabir. This goal filled the Dutch with courage and a few minutes later, Luc Castaignos doubled the score after receiving a through-pass in a dubious offside position and all alone in front of the Maltese goalkeeper, placed the ball at the back of the net.

Three minutes from time, Luc Castaignos scored a third goal for the Netherlands.

Malta plays its final game on Tuesday against hosts Slovenia.
