EURO 2016: Malta share the points with Azerbaijan
Malta played to a 2-2 draw against Azerbaijan in Group H of the European Qualifiers.
Malta were in the lead until Azerbaijan scored the equaliser in the last 10 minutes of play.
Azerbaijan enjoyed mot of he possession right from the start and managed to score on the 36th minute. Rahid Amirguliyev managed to beat goalkeeper Andrew Hogg from his shot just outside the area.
Malta managed to score the equaliser on the 56th minute. Andre Schembri intercepted a sloppy pass to then serve Alfred Effiong. Effiong then managed to pass the ball to Michale Mifsud who then had his powerful shot beat goalkeeper Kamran Agayev.
Azerbaijan continued to press to regain the lead, but it would be Malta who took the lead for the first time in the match on the 71st minute. Andre Schembri served Alfred Effiong who then went on to beat the Azerbaijan goalkeeper to make the score 2-1 for Malta.
Malta desperately tried to hang on to the lead but the opponents managed to score the equaliser on the 80th minute. Ruslan Gurbanov made his way past a defender to then serve Rahid Amirguliyev who then beat Andrew Hogg with his powerful shot from outside the area.
