Inter lose further ground on Lazio

Inter Milan lost ground on Serie A leaders Lazio as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria. City rivals Milan have the chance to move into second place if they defeat Napoli tonight.

Stefano Guberti gave Sampdoria the lead in the 62nd minute and the Blucerchiati looked on course for all three points until Samuel Eto'o levelled with 10 minutes remaining. The Nerazzurri searched for a winner, but had to settle for a point at the San Siro.

A Stefano Mauri-inspired Lazio beat Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico to record their fourth consecutive win in Serie A and consolidate top spot.

The Italy international set up the opener for Sergio Floccari in the 21st minute before scoring his side's second shortly after the restart. Alessandro Matri pulled one back for Cagliari before the hour mark.

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri's position is likely to come under further scrutiny this week after his side played out a dour goalless draw at struggling Parma.

The Giallorossi were beaten 3-1 at home by Basle in the Champions League in midweek, and their inability to overcome a Parma side without a win since the opening day will not have helped convince Ranieri's growing number of doubters.

Former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard has been touted as a possible replacement after he left Galatasaray last week, but with the pressure mounting on their boss Roma failed to deliver in a match woefully short on creativity.

Juventus were left to rue Vincenzo Iaquinta's first-half penalty miss as Bologna held out for a goalless draw which preserves their unbeaten record at Stadio Renato Della'Ara this season. Iaquinta, who started the match on the bench but came on as an early replacement for the injured Amauri, was gifted the chance to opening the scoring nine minutes before half-time but saw his spot-kick saved by Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.

Genoa moved into the top half of Serie A thanks to a slender 1-0 win over Catania at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. A goal from captain Marco Rossi midway through the second half decided a lacklustre encounter and enabled Genoa to leapfrog their opponents in the league table, also climbing above their city rivals Sampdoria.

Udinese overcame the second-half dismissal of Andrea Coda to hold off a late challenge from Palermo and post their third successive win in Serie A with a 2-1 victory.

The hosts appeared to be firmly in the driving seat with goals from Mehdi Benatia and Antonio Di Natale, but Coda's red card midway through the half gave Palermo an unexpected boost.

Lecce bounced back from last weekend's 4-0 debacle at Juventus with a 2-1 victory over Brescia on Sunday afternoon.

Chievo moved up to fourth place in the Serie A table as Cyril Thereau's last-gasp goal gave them a slender 2-1 win over ten-man Cesena at Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. The Flying Donkeys took the lead through Bostjan Cesar's header but a Roberto Guana own goal levelled matters on the stroke of the half-time interval.
