Eto’o saves Inter as Bologna defeat Lecce

Eto’s penalty shot in the second half cancelled out Brescia’s shock lead.

This match has put another black cloud over current European and Italian champions Inter.

After the 3-1 loss against Tottenham in the Champions League earlier this week, Inter were looking to get back on their feet with a win against Serie A new boys Brescia.

Benitez put Milito back in the team with Eto’o to try his luck with two attackers. Inter started on the attack from the start, but the stubborn defence of Brescia kept the ball out of the visitors net.

Eto’o had numerous chances denied, as it was already starting to show that it was not going to be Inter’s night.

On the 14thminute, Brescia’s Andrea Caracciolo shrugged of Inter’s Samuel  and put the ball past Luca Castellazzi. Brescia had the lead.

This was not the end of Inter’s woes as Ivan Cordoba had to come in for injured Maicon.

Pandev missed a great chance by shooting the ball just over the bar after Eto’o set him up.

Coutinho also tried his luck minutes later, but he was denied as well.

Rafa Benitez had more problems to solve as Joel Obi had to be brought in for Sneijder who did not come out for the second half.

It was not over for Rafa’s problems as Inter’s worst nightmare came true. Walter Samuel  crashed into a Brescia player to end up bending his knee backwards. Reports this morning suggest that he will most probably miss the entire season as it would take about nine months for him to recover.

Inter kept pressing, with more unsuccessful chances from Eto’o and Milito.

Inter were heading for their first defeat at home in over two years, but it all changed when Jonathan Zebina brought down Eto’o in the area. Eto’o converted the penalty and it was 1-1.

Inter piled on the pressure, but they had to settle for a 1-1 scoreline. This means Milan can jump Inter in the standings if they beat Bari today, as Lazio will remain top regardless if they win or lose against Roma.

In the earlier match Bologna left it late to defeat Lecce. Bologna went on to win 2-0 to move them out of the relegation zone.

Both teams fighting to move out of the relegation zone made this a exciting match.

Bologna dominated the entire match will Lecce having only a few chances on goal.

Bologna’s coach Alberto Malesani went into the match with the pressure of being sacked.

After a entire match of failed attempts on both sides of the pitch, veteran Di Vaio gave Bologna the deserved lead as he headed the ball in.

One minute later, Lecce fell apart when substitute Gimenez killed off the match with another goal for Bologna.

This result, moves Bologna out of the relegation zone and saves coach Malesani’s job for now.
