Liverpool sink again as Manchester United leave it late to salvage a point

Liverpool’s mini-streak ended when they were defeated by Stoke City 2-0 at the Britannia stadium. 

Stoke were the better team of the day in all departments. Stoke City pressed from the first whistle and did not look back. Goals for Stoke City came from Ricardo Fuller on the 56thminute and Kenwyne Jones on the 90th. It was not a good day for Liverpool and manager Roy Hodgson has his work cut out for him this season.

Manchester United left it to the final ten minutes of the match against Aston Villa to salvage a point.

Aston Villa went ahaead on the 72ndminute when they were awarded a penalty and Ashley Young converted for the goal. Four minutes later Marc Albrighton made it 2-0.

United pressed in the final minutes to save the match.

On the 81stminute Federico Macheda had his 20-yard drive hit the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Nemanja Vidic’s trademark header found the back of the net after receiving from Nani on the 85thminute.

Even though Manchester salvaged a point manager Sir Alex Ferguson was not happy with his sides performance.  Ferguson blamed carelessness and poor passing. He also said his team usually controls the match but in this match they didn’t.

Manchester City were jeered by their fans as they played to a goalless draw against Birmingham. Tottenham defeated Blackburn 4-2. West Ham and Blackpool shared the points with a 0-0 draw.

Wolves still remain in the relegation zone after being defeated by Bolton 3-2. Newcastle were held to a 0-0 draw by Fulhan and Wigan climbed out of the relegation zone by defeating West Brom 1-0.
