Vittoriosa Stars and St. Andrews through to the second round

Victoria Hotspurs took the lead on the 15^thminute when Kalin Ganchev found the back of the net after receiving a great pass.

On the 35^thminute Jorge Santos Silva levelled, when he received a good pass from Carlos Compagnoli.

In the second half Victoria Hotspurs did not wait too long to take the lead. On the 48^thminute some bad defence on the side of Vittoriosa Stars let Justin Azzopardi enough space to beat goalkeeper Jean Matthias Vella.

Vittoriosa again levelled when Leighton Grech made it 2-2 on the 62^ndminute. Jorge Santos Silva passed to Grech who made no mistake in beating the goalkeeper.

Vittoriosa started pressing for the lead and Anthony Ewurum put them in front for the first time in the match just two minutes later.

In added time Vittoriosa sealed the match when Anthony Ewerum got his second goal by heading the ball home after receiving a cross from Leighton Grech.

The match ended 4-2 in favour of Vittoriosa Stars who now advance to the second round of the U*BET FA Trophy.

Back in Malta at the Centenary Stadium, St. Andrews were the second team today to advance to the second round as the defeated St. George’s 2-1.

On the 29^th, St. Andrews took the lead when Jack Pallen had his shot from the edge of the area beat St. George’s goalkeeper Ryan Cilia.

It was not long after that St. Andrew’s doubled the score when on the 33^rdminute when Jonathan Briscoe made it 2-0 after a fine build up from Jack Pallen.

St. George’s went one mane down when Dylan Zarb was sent off. But St. George’s managed to get one goal back when Jonathan Briscoe White brought down Jonathan Luiz in the area. The referee did not hesitate to point to point for a penalty.

Briscoe White was sent off for his second yellow card and Glenn Bonello made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 2-1.

St. Andrews and Vittoriosa Stars join Floriana, Hamrun Spartans, Hibernians, Marsaxlokk, Tarxien Rainbows and Mosta in the second round.
