Liverpool sign Sadio Mane in £34 million deal
Liverpool sign Senegalese striker Sadio Mane from Southampton for around £34 million
Liverpool have completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton for around £34 million.
The 24-year-old Senegalese striker put pen to paper on a five-year deal after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms at Melwood.
His fee could rise to £36 million, which would eclipse the £35 million that Liverpool paid in 2011 for Andy Carroll, the club’s most expensive signing.
Mane scored 25 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for Southampton, after joining for £10 million from Salzburg in 2014.
He also has 36 caps for Senegal and has scored 10 goals for his country.
“Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history. Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season.”
Mane is the latest in a strong of players to make the switch from St Mary’s to Anfield since 2014 – following in the footsteps of Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, and Rickie Lambert.
He becomes manager Jurgen Klopp's fourth summer signing, after midfielder Marko Grujic, defender Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius.
