Italian football players to strike

The Italian Players Association has confirmed yesterday their intention to proceed with strike action on 11-12 December.

The news of the strike, was confirmed by AIC vice-president, Leonardo Grosso.

An agreement had not been reached over one of the points of the collective bargaining agreement.

"From our side there was willingness and availability, we sought an agreement but no agreement was reached. A strike has been declared for December 11-12," he told the press.

Last September the two sides were making progress as an earlier strike was suspended and an agreement looked to be very close. Since then the negotiations have hit a snag and a strike date has been set.

Yesterday morning, league president Maurizio Beretta expressed his disappointment with the decision; call it “irresponsible” and an event that will leave a negative light on the history of Italian football.
