Valletta defeat Hamrun to move seven points clear

Valletta now have 21 points followed by Floriana and Tarxien with 14 and Marsaxlokk, Hamrun and Birkirkara on 13 points.

Hamrun went on the attach from the start, and David Camilleri was the first to test Valletta keeper Andew Hogg with a freekick.

Valletta’s Kevin Sammut replied immediately with a shot that was saved by Hamrun’s goalkeeper Omar Borg just a few moments later.

Valletta started to increase the pressure on Hamrun with attempts on goal from Edmond Agius and Roderick Briffa.

On the 40^th  minute Hamrun had a great opportunity to take the lead when Massimo Grima’s header was saved by some excellent goalkeeping from Valletta’s Andrew Hogg.

Valletta managed to take the lead in the second half on the 55^th  minute when Steve Borg headed the ball past goalkeeper Omar Borg.

Hamrun had the opportunity to equalise when off a corner by David Camilleri, Gaetan Spiteri’s shot went wide.

Hamrun kept on pressing for the equaliser when on the 80^th  minute Grima failed to connect of a pass from David Camilleri. Valletta replied a few minutes later when Denni’s shot from outside the area just went wide.

Hamrun’s Martin Hrubsa was sent off on the 84^th  minute when he received a second yellow card. The one advantage did not last long for Valletta as Dyson Falzon was sent off three minutes later for a second yellow card as well.

Valletta killed off the match on the 88^th  minute. Omonigho Temile received a great ball from Denni to dribble past a defender who then beat the Hamrun keeper with his hard shot.
