Malta holds Estonia in a friendly match
Malta earned a positive result ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Scotland after holding Estonia in a 1-1 draw.
Malta were unlucky not to go ahead on the 36th minute when a cross from the right found Andre Schembri, who slotted the ball inside the net. However, the assistant referee flagged for an offside.
Estonia responded on the 41st minute when Gert Kams went on the right before firing a shot that was blocked by Hogg.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Estonia went ahead. Sergei Zenjov ran from the left towards the edge of the penalty area and fired a shot that ended behind Andrew Hogg.
Malta equalised two minutes later after Schembri sent a through ball towards Alfred Effiong. In an attempt to clear the ball, Nikita Baranov played the ball behind his goalkeeper towards the path of Effiong. In front of an open goal, the Maltese striker had the easiest of jobs and placed the ball in the net.
Fifteen minutes from time, the post denied Schembri from scoring Malta’s second goal. The Boavista striker received from Luke Gambin in the centre of the penalty area, before shooting towards the right corner. Unfortunately for him, the ball hit the post.
Malta will now face Scotland on Sunday at the National Stadium.
