A goal by Armando Vieira dos Santos on the 89th minute made all the difference for Sliema as the Wanderers registered their fourth consecutive win.
The first chance of the match came for Pembroke on the 20th minute. From Siraj Arab’s cross, Jhonathan Bernardo Mariano failed to make contact with the ball. Possession fell for Clifford Gauci who fired high.
Sliema hit back four minutes later. Michel Salomon Wisdom sent a cross from a corner that was met by Peter Xuereb. However, his header went centimetres wide of the post.
The Wanderers had another good opportunity on the 39th minute. Mathias Muchardi delivered the ball towards Jean Paul Farrugia. The Maltese striker went inside the penalty area and fired a shot that forced a good save from Matthew Calleja Cremona.
John Buttigieg’s side increased the pressure in the second half and created another chance on the 53rd minute. Ryan Spiteri took hold of the ball and attempted a shot that went wide.
On the 68th minute, Sliema won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Muchardi took charge of it and saw his effort going slightly high.
Jean Paul Farrugia lost a golden opportunity for Sliema on the 73rd minute. From a corner, Wisdom sent a cross that found Farrugia in an ideal position, but his shot went high.
Sliema’s efforts paid off one minute from time. Roger De Souza Villas Boas sent an inviting cross inside the penalty area which the Sliema defence failed to clear. The ball for substitute Armando Viera dos Santos who saw his shot ending up inside the net.
