Floriana went ahead on the 25th minute when ­they were awarded a penalty after Maurizio Vella was brought inside the penalty area by Antonio De Queiroz Machedo Neto. From the resulting spot kick, Nicolas Chiesa kept his composure and finished past Jurgen Borg.

The Greens were close to double the score on the 38th minute. Amadou Samb saw hit effort being cleared off the line by Neto.

A minute later, Justin Haber was on the alert to deny Gżira. From a free kick, Rafael Pompeo Rodrigues Ledesma fired a shot that was parried by the experienced goalkeeper.

Giovanni Tedesco’s side had another opportunity early in the second half. Mario Fontanella went past the Gżira goalkeeper, but saw his shot being cleared off the line by Souleymane Diamoutene.

Haber produced another great save on the 50th minute to deny Gianmarco Conti.

On the 77th minute, Vella of Floriana received the ball from Samb and hit a shot that was saved by Borg before hitting the post.

Nine minutes from time, Moises Avila Perez hit a low shot that ended up centimetres wide.
