Despite Sliema controlling possession in the early stages of the match, Balzan went ahead on the brink of half time. Paul Fenech managed to find Kaljevic who fired a shot from outside the penalty area that hit the crossbar and ended up inside the net.

Sliema were close to equalise on the 62nd minute when Peter Xuereb hit a powerful shot that was parried by Ivan Janjusevic.

The Wanderers equalised a minute later through Muchardi. From the resulting corner, the ball was delivered inside the penalty area and the Italian midfielder headed home past Janjusevic.

Balzan had a golden opportunity to regain the lead on the 79th minute. Paul Fenech sent a cross that was met by Abdelkarim Nafti, but his effort hit the post.
