Valletta made up for their disappointing draw against Mosta with a fine 3-0 win over Pembroke Athleta.
Matthew Calleja Cremona was on the alert to deny Valletta after six minutes. Jhonnattan Benites Da Conceicao went down the left flank and sent a low cross towards Michael Mifsud. The veteran striker fired a shot that was well saved by the twenty-two year old goalkeeper.
Valletta lost another opportunity four minutes later. Cladio Pani managed to find Jean Borg whose effort hit the post.
The Citizens went ahead on the 14th minute. Federico Falcone sent a strong shot that was partially saved by Calleja Cremona. Possession fell for Mifsud who finished inside the net.
Pembroke tried to hit back three minutes later when Siraj Arab hit a volley that ended up high.
Few minutes later, Andreas Scozzese of Pembroke also had an attempt on goal. Following a cross, the twenty-seven year old sent an effort that sailed wide of the post.
On the 23rd minute, Pembroke had a good opportunity when Asani Djeljilj saw his shot from a free kick being neutralised by Dziugas Barktus.
Jhonnattann was close to double the score for Valletta on the 27th minute. The Brazilian striker fired a shot from inside the penalty area that hit the post.
On the half hour mark, Valletta lost another good opportunity to double the score. Jhonnattann delivered the ball towards Falcone whose effort was well neutralised by Calleja Cremona.
Jhonnattann was denied once more by Calleja Cremona on the 58th minute. From a free kick, the Valletta forward forced a good save from the young goalkeeper.
Valletta left no doubt on the result fifteen minutes from time. Santiago Malano sent a stunning shot from a free kick that hit the post before settling in inside the net.
Paul Zammit’s side scored their third goal of the match on the 81st minute. From another free kick, Leandro Aguirre hit a low shot past Calleja Cremona.
