Two goals from Massimiliano Giusti paved the way for a 2-0 for Ħamrun Spartans.
Birkirkara had an excellent opportunity to open the score on the 38th minute. Philip Chircop fouled Matteo Desira Buttigieg inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. However, from the eleven metres mark, Vito Plut hit the post.
In the beginning of the second half, Frank Temile had another opportunity to put Birkirkara ahead. The striker took hold of possession, but fired wide from an ideal position.
The stripes paid harshly for losing these chances on the 50th minute. Jake Grech sent a through ball towards Massimiliano Giusti who finished past Miroslav Kopric.
Things went from bad to worse for Birkirkara on the 66th minute when Nikola Vukanac was shown a red card following a foul on Patrick Teixeira.
Ħamrun doubled the score two minutes later when Jake Grech sent another through ball towards the unmarked Giusti and the Italian player fired a shot past Kopric.
