Roma stun Milan to open up title race
Roma added some life into the Serie A championship as they defeated leaders 1-0.
A goal from former Milan striker Marco Borriello sealed the victory for Roma.
Milan pressed from the start of the match for the opening goal, but luck was not on their side.
The best opportunity in the first half for Milan arrived on the 35th minute when Ibrahimovic beat the offside trap. The ball got caught up in his feet, with his attempt to lob the ball over goalkeeper Doni foiled.
In the second half, Roma came out with more confidence as they survived the onslaught from Milan in the first half.
Roma’s winning goal arrived on the 69th minute. A cross from Menez from the right was temporarily blocked by Milan’s Abate, but the rebound hit Borriello’s leg to end up in the back of the net.
The victory for Roma moves them up to fifth place and gives Juventus and Napoli a chance to cut the gap between them and Milan by three points.
In the earlier match Cesena defeated Cagliari 1-0.
The much needed win for Cesena came thanks to Luis Jiminez in the 17th minute.
The playing condition were horrible as the pitch was frozen.
Roberto Donadoni’s side looked the shadow of the side that have won three of their last four matches.
