Former Liverpool player dies in motorcycle accident

Former Liverpool and Rangers player Avi Cohen has died following his recent motorcycle accident.

Bolton midfielder Tamir Cohen announced his fathers’s death at a press conference. The news was also confirmed by the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

The former Israel international played for Liverpool from 1979 – 1981.

Avi Cohen also had a spell with Ranger in 1987.

Avi Cohen was 54 years old, the cause of death was brain damage. His son Tamir had flown out to Israel to be at his father’s bedside following the accident on December 20.

Avi Shoshan, a spokesman for the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, said: "The committee of doctors say that Avi Cohen is brain dead.

"They have issued a death certificate. Now they are talking with the family to try and figure out what to do about his organs, whether to donate or not. That is the dilemma right now. There is no way back."

Bolton manager Owen Coyle said: "On behalf of everyone at Bolton Wanderers football club, our thoughts are with Tamir and his family with the news that Avi Cohen has passed away.

"We are saddened by this news and we would request the Cohens' privacy is respected at this time."
