BOV Premier League | Birkirkara 3 – Ħamrun Spartans 0
Birkirkara climbed fourth after a solid 3-0 win against Ħamrun Spartans.
Birkirkara created the first chance on goal after just three minutes. Edmond Agius sent a cross towards Gareth Sciberras who headed wide.
The stripes kept on insisting and went close again on the 22nd minute. From a free kick, Miguel Angel Alba hit a powerful drive that forced an excellent save from David Cassar.
Nikola Jaros’s side increased their pressure and had a goal disallowed on the 26th minute. Alba sent a cross towards Gonzalo Malan and the latter finished home from close range. Referee Glen Tonna first signalled a goal, but decided to rule it out later after consulting his assistant referee to the disappointment of Birkirkara’s players.
However, Birkirkara broke the deadlock nine minutes later. Edward Herrera fired a diagonal shot that took a deflection off Malan and ended up inside the net.
Birkirkara continued building on their good form in the match and doubled the score on the hour mark. From a corner, Alba sent a dangerous cross inside the penalty area towards Christian Bubalovic who headed inside the net.
The stripes were unlucky not to score again on the 83rd minute. Ryan Scicluna sent an excellent cross towards substitute John Adolfo Obregon Quinones whose effort hit the woodwork.
Despite losing this opportunity, Birkirkara sealed the issue one minute from time. Ryan Scicluna served Srdan Dimitrov and the latter hit a low shot past Cassar.
