Pembroke-Mosta match fixing: ‘inquiry making progress’
MFA prosecutor files charges against Uchenna Anyanwu and Pembroke Athleta
The Malta FA’s Board to Adjudicate Charges Relating to Bribery and Illegal Betting in Football will convene this evening for its first hearing into the match-fixing charges brought against Uchenna Anyanwu and Pembroke Athleta FC following a thorough fact-finding exercise by the Association’s Integrity Office.
Anyanwu was provisionally suspended from all football activities by the Malta Football Association on February 16 after the police issued match-fixing charges against him.
Anyanwu, who occupied the post of team manager with Pembroke Athleta FC at the time, was arraigned in court charged with trying to manipulate the result of Pembroke Athleta FC’s Premier League second-round match against Mosta FC on February 11, 2017.
“As per standard practice, the Malta FA had immediately asked its Prosecutor to initiate investigations into the matter. Such investigations have led to charges being filed before the said Board,” the football association said.
“The Malta FA will make no further comment until the matter is decided in a definite manner.”
