Pressure mounts on Ancelotti as Chelsea lose again
This has been one of the worst campaigns for Chelsea in recent years. Chelsea coach Ancelotti’s job seems to be on the line as the players seem to be struggling as they were defeated by Wolverhampton Wolves 1-0.
An own goal from Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa sealed the affair and gave bottom dwellers Wolverhampton Wolves the 1-0 victory. Title contenders Arsenal and Manchester City played to a goalless draw yesterday evening. Arsenal should have won the match, but the woodwork denied them on two occasions. Arsenal had most of the ball possession compared to Manchester City’s negative play. Both teams were reduced to 10 men after Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna were shown straight red cards after they clashed. Aston Villa can’t get things right this season as they dropped into the relegation zone for the first time in seven years, after they were defeated by Sunderland 1-0. Villa’s coach Gerard Houlier’s job is on the line after this defeat as well. Sunderland’s Philip Bardsley left it late to score the winner. On the 80th minute his right footed shot from outside the area beat Villa’s goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Newcastle had a fantastic evening as they defeated West Ham 5-0. West Ham fall deep into the relegation zone with this recent hammering. Newcastle went in front on the 18th minute when Leon Best scored from the centre of the area. It was Leon Best again on the 39th minute to make it 2-0. He did not miss again when the chance arrived and he beat goalkeeper Robert Green from the centre of the area. Kevin Nolan put the match out of reach on the 45th minute to make it 3-0 in Newcastle’s favor. Leon Best completed his hat-trick when Kevin Nolan assisted with a through ball, Best made no mistake to find the back of the net on the 60th minute. It was Newcastle 4 West Ham 0. The final goal of the night arrived from Peter Lovenkrands on the 63rd minute to make it 5-0. Liverpool are very close to the relegation zone and coach Roy Hodgson seems to be on his way out. Liverpool were defeated by Balckburn Rovers 3-1 to put them under great pressure. The goal of the season has changed from a top four finish to surviving top flight football. Chants from fans did not help. Hodgson had to hear “You’re getting sacked in the morning” throughout the match. Martin Olsson put Rovers ahead on the 32nd minute. His shot from the edge of the area was enough to make it 1-0. Six minutes later, Rovers made it 2-0 thanks to Benjani Mwaruwari. It was mission impossible for Liverpool now as Benjani got his second of the evening with his shot from very close range on the 57th minute. On the 81st minute, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard pulled one back for Liverpool, but it was just too late to make a comeback. Bolton and Wigan played to 1-1 draw to share the spoils. Goals from Bolton’s Rodrigo on the 54th minute and Wigan’s Ronnie Stam on the 80th minute were enough to guarantee a point to both teams.
