Inter defeat Catania as Milan are held by Udinese
Inter came back from behind to defeat Catania 2-1. It was an important victory as Inter gained valuable points on leaders Milan who were held by Udinese in a 4-4 draw.
Inter are 11 points behind Milan with this victory with two games in hand.
Catania closed down Inter in the first half with good defending and counter attacks. The home side looked impressive and were close to taking the lead on a number of occasions.
As the first half ended goalless, Catania started the second half on the attack and put Inter under pressure on a number of occasions.
Catania finally took the lead after some confusion in front of the Inter goal. Alejandro Gomez scored on the 71st minute from the centre of the area.
The lead did not last as Inter’s Cambiasso scored the equaliser three minutes later. An assist from Dejan Stankovic was enough for Cambiasso to score from the centre of the area.
Inter started to gain confidence as time went on and they took the lead thanks to Cambiasso again when he headed the ball in after an assist from Maicon.
Leonardo’s Inter win was a massive step in their mission to defend their Serie A title.
Milan and Udinese played in a eight goal thriller. The match ended 4-4 with Udinese having the lead through most of the match.
Ibrahimovic saved Milan blushes in added time as he scored the goal to give Milan the equaliser.
Udinese took the shock lead on the 35th minute with a goal from Antonio Di Natale.
Alexandre Pato scored the equaliser seconds before the first half ended thanks to a great assist from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Alexis Sanchez gave Udinese the lead again on the 53rd minute with his header from close range.
On the 66th minute Di Natale made it 3-1 when he beat the Milan goalkeeper from close range.
Milan were desperate to try to save this match and they started to press to at least earn a point from this match.
Luck was on Milan’s side when an own goal from Udinese’s Medhi Benatia on the 78th minute made it 3-2.
Milan were back in the match now and Pato made it 3-3 on the 82nd minute thanks to a brilliant assist from new boy Cassano.
Udinese took the shock lead again late in the match. German Denis scored on the 89th minute after some sloppy defending by Milan.
Ibrahimovic saved the game for Milan in added time after he scored following an assist from Cassano.
The match ended 4-4, with Milan and Udinese both earning a point. The draw for Milan will not be taken lightly as it gives more of a chance for their city rivals Inter who are gaining confidence to gain ground on them.
In other matches Sampdoria defeated AS Roma 2-1.
Bologna defeated Bari 2-0 as Cesena and Genoa played to a goalless draw.
Chievo and Palermo also shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
Fiorentina had to work to defeat Brescia 3-2.
Lazio were defeated by Lecce 2-1 and finally Parma were defeated by Cagliari 2-1.
