A strong second half performance saw Hibernians overcoming FCI Tallinn of Estonia 2-0.
FCI Tallinn were awarded a penalty after four minutes. Clayton Failla committed a foul inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. From the elven metres mark, Kirill Nesterov saw his shot being saved by Andrew Hogg who went down to his right and tipped the ball out for a corner.
The Estonian champions were denied by the post on the half hour mark. Alexander Dmitrijev fired a stunning shot from distance that hit the upright.
Hibs created the first chance on the match on the 45th minute. Following a cross inside the penalty area, Andrei Agius headed towards goal. However, Matvei Igonen blocked his effort.
A minute later, Jorge Da Silva Pereira sent a close range shot that ended up slightly wide.
On the 53rd minute, Albert Prosa of FCI went inside the penalty area and hit a low shot that was neutralized by Hogg.
The Paolites went ahead on the 63rd minute. From a free kick, Marco Sahanek’s cross was met by Jorginho who guided a header inside the net.
Hibernians added another on the 72nd minute. From a corner, Jackson Lima sent a cross into the path of Bjorn Kristensen who finished behind Igonen.
Three minutes into the additional time, substitute Jurgen Degabriele received the ball inside the penalty area and sent a shot that was easily saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
A minute later, Kristensen’s cross was met by Joseph Mbong whose low shot took a deflection and went out for a corner.
Hibs will now play the second leg in Estonia on the 4th of July.
