The first half remained goalless, but both teams produced a number of chances in front of goal.

On the 16^th  minute mark, Marsaxlokk’s Malcolm Licari setup a great opportunity for Effiong and Galabov, but the players could not connect in front of goal.

Birkirkara’s Alan Tabone shot from outside the area was stopped by the stubborn defence of Marsaxlokk on the 29^th  minute.

In the second half, Marsaxlokk finally broke the deadlock when on the 67^th  minute Malcolm Licari dribbled the ball past two players and then concluded by beating Birkirkara goalkeeper Michael Fraser.

Marsaxlokk started to gain confidence and the opportunities in front of the Birkirkara goal started to increase.

Marsaxlokk doubled the score on the 75^th  minute, thanks to a header by Gareth Sciberras after receiving a great cross from Alfred Effiong.
