Manchester City held by Birmingham as Liverpool win
Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City title hopes suffered a major dent yesterday as Birmingham City held them to a 2-2 draw.
City are now eight points behind leaders United with a game extra played.
Manchester City were looking to win all three points until Patrick Vieira committed a careless foul inside the area. Craig Gardner made no mistake from the penalty spot to spoil City’s chance for victory.
Liverpool started on a positive note after their star striker Fernando Torres decided to leave the club and move to rivals Chelsea.
Liverpool defeated Stoke City 2-0. The first goal was scored by Raul Meirless who made no mistake after a receiving from a free-kick by Steven Gerrard.
The second goal arrived from new signing Luis Suarez.
Liverpool are now within two points of the top six in the Premier League standings.
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Blackburn Rovers 1-0 as they are showing no signs of slowing down to claim a Champions League qualifying place for next season.
Rafael Van der Vaart served Peter Crouch who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
West Ham United defeated Blackpool 3-1 in a battle to stay out of the relegation zone. This victory sees West Ham move off the bottom and level with Birmingham in 17th place.
Newcastle United were defeated by Fulham 1-0. Damien Duff scored on the 67th minute to secure all three points for Fulham.
Bolton Wanderers defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0. The Wolves now are the new occupants of the bottom spot in the standings.
